SIG: Pain and Pain Management in Non-human Species Satellite Symposium
This symposium will be held at a satellite meeting of the 12th World Congress on Pain in Glasgow, Scotland, UK on the 14th and 15th August 2008.
This symposium will explore the measurement of nociception and pain in non-human animal models of painful disease (both induced models and spontaneous disease models). The symposium will be a critical presentation, evaluation and discussion of objective, validated measures of nociception, pain and quality of life in animals. The potential importance of the models highlighted to human pain relief will be highlighted.
The symposium will be divided into 2 days focused on:
- Measuring the affective component of pain in animal models
- Measuring pain in spontaneous painful disease models in animals
Intended audience
It is envisioned that the delegates who would be attracted to attend this Satellite Symposium would be:
- Cancer pain researchers
- Arthritis pain researchers
- Diabetic neuropathy researchers
- Researchers interested in the affective component of pain
- Pain researchers who have considered or are considering the use of non-rodent / non-human models
- Veterinarians in pain research and those with a particular interest in pain assessment in animals
- Researchers in pharmaceutical companies who are using rodent and non-rodent models to evaluate drugs
Registration will close on the 15th of July.
The meeting will be held at the University of Glasgow conference facilities
Please note: reserved accommodation is limited, and is very reasonably priced – please book early to minimize your meeting costs.
Registration will cover:
